Fix What’s Broken: Clinic Edition

Tim M, foster (Oksana)

We typically have at least two funsize fosters in our home. As a result, I’ve had many wonderful interactions with the vet team. They truly care about each dog and work incredibly hard to provide them with the medical care they need. Each surgery day, the crates are full with dogs awaiting care.

We typically have at least two funsize fosters in our home. As a result, I’ve had many wonderful interactions with the vet team. They truly care about each dog and work incredibly hard to provide them with the medical care they need. Each surgery day, the crates are full with dogs awaiting care. The vet staff has an incredibly positive attitude and always greets us both with a smile. I leave the vet clinic knowing they are in extremely good hands.

Oksana, a fun‑size beagle mix, is a recent foster. Shortly after she arrived, I noticed a sore on the right side of her muzzle. An email to the Foster Medical team—answered quickly, especially for a Saturday—led to a prescription and fast relief. At her recommended follow‑up Monday morning, she received a clean bill of health with no additional concerns.

Just two days later, before her scheduled spay, I noticed a lump on her underside. Further examination revealed a cyst with irregular edges and a hernia. The spay, hernia repair, and cyst removal took a toll, but she rebounded quickly and was much stronger the next day. She also tested positive for heartworm, adding three medications to her care plan.

Oksana has been chosen but adoption is delayed while she heals. She is a loving dog and appreciates the love and attention she gets from her foster family, the foster team, and especially the vet team. We are happily fostering during recovery and are excited to see her thrive in her forever home.

Not every shelter has the resources to provide complex medical care. Because of Saving Grace’s medical clinic, Oksana has the chance at a long, healthy life. Supporting the clinic helps ensure more dogs like her get that same opportunity.
