The Saving Grace 6: A Life Woven with Rescue

In our 24 years of marriage, my husband Drew and I have rescued 10 dogs—6 of them from Saving Grace. Each one has added a unique thread to the fabric of our lives, and together they’ve created a story of love, laughter, and second chances.

In our 24 years of marriage, my husband Drew and I have rescued 10 dogs—6 of them from Saving Grace. Each one has added a unique thread to the fabric of our lives, and together they’ve created a story of love, laughter, and second chances.

It started with Ursus, a soulful Newf-Lab mix who stole our cheeseburgers and our hearts. Then came Piper, a one-eyed Pekingese diva who arrived on Christmas morning with a bow around her neck and a whole lot of attitude. Jersey, born on Meghan’s kitchen floor, turned out to be a brilliant escape artist and the most thoughtful fetch partner we’ve ever had.

Bumbles, our gentle Great Pyrenees giant, was adopted while I was still under anesthesia—best impulsive decision ever. Gus, our 8-pound chihuahua, runs the house (and possibly the state) in his bow tie. And Winnie, our Pyr-Doodle, came into my life during a difficult time and became my reason to get up, walk, play, and laugh again.

We’ve walked in the rain, cleaned up messes, cried over losses, and celebrated every silly, sweet moment. These dogs didn’t just fill our home—they filled our hearts. They’ve taught us about loyalty, resilience, and the joy of living fully in the moment.

Our dogs have brought richness and sweetness to our lives—and we’re forever grateful to Saving Grace.
