Slim’s Story: A Soul-Dog and a Saving Grace
I wasn’t sure I was ready. After months of quietly scrolling through dog profiles, falling in love with sweet faces but hesitating to commit, I finally decided to begin my search in earnest. Life had thrown me some challenges, and I was looking for something—or someone—to help me find my way back to joy.

I chose Saving Grace because I’d only ever heard good things. But walking through the gates for the first time felt like stepping into a kind of heaven. Nestled behind a grocery store, the rescue opened up into a world of wagging tails, sunbathing pups, and playful energy.
Among all the dogs, the Peanuts litter caught my attention. My partner was drawn to one puppy, but I kept coming back to Slim (then Linus). When he climbed into my lap and gently nibbled the edge of my fluffy sweater, I knew. I tried to give the other pups a fair shot, but my eyes always found Slim. His lemon coat, deep brown eyes, and quiet charm were irresistible.
Adopting during the holidays wasn’t ideal—my partner was traveling, and I was working—but I couldn’t bear the thought of missing out on him.
Slim is exceptional. He’s silly, smart, and good-natured. He’s helped me heal in ways I didn’t expect. I was grieving the loss of my dad and struggling with depression. Slim became my light and even during the shark-puppy phase and potty training, he brought joy. He still does—every single day.
There wasn’t one dramatic moment when Slim “saved” me. It’s been a thousand small ones: his tail bouncing as he prances proudly, the way he leans into my hand during an ear rub, the way he makes me laugh on my darkest days. I didn’t save him. He saves me—again and again.
