Silly Goose, Perfect Match

Goose is the silliest, sweetest, gentlest girl, and we are so lucky to have her. Her personality showed through the minute we met her. Belly rubs were met with opening and closing her mouth like she was chomping on air. Her antics resulted in her name, silly Goose.

We brought her home in January through Saving Grace’s Foster-to-Adopt program because she was heartworm positive. By then, we already loved her, and her diagnosis didn’t change that—we just wanted her to be healthy and happy. With Saving Grace covering the cost of treatment, there was nothing standing in the way of giving her a home.

During her treatment, we focused on keeping her calm, comfortable, and well loved. The biggest challenge was limiting her activity—only short walks for about two months. As a young lab mix, that wasn’t easy! We relied on puzzle toys and enrichment to keep her occupied, though she still had plenty of energy. When she was finally cleared, we took her to the park, and she instantly got the zoomies—it was pure joy. Now she goes back several times a week to see her friends.

We’ve also worked with her to build confidence around people. While she can still be a bit cautious, she no longer freezes on walks and seems much more comfortable exploring the world. Her skin has improved significantly as well—thanks to medication and regular grooming, she’s come a long way.

Goose loves learning new tricks—her favorite is “paw”—and plays well with other dogs, often “booping” them with her paws. She adores soft blankets and will always find one to curl up on. Thanks to Saving Grace, she came to us mostly crate trained and now happily runs to her crate as soon as she sees her Kong.

I love to sit down next to her while she is curled up on the couch and watch her unfurl herself so I can rub her belly. She loves laying down in a sort of “superman” pose with her arms stretched out and laying down in various other silly positions. She also “snores” while awake, almost like she is purring or grunting with excitement as a thanks for extra cuddling. We love what a strange sweetheart she is, our Goosey Girl is the perfect dog for us.
