Rooshi
Nine years ago, I was serving in the Peace Corps in Vanuatu when I got the heartbreaking news that my mom’s health was declining. I flew home just in time to be with her as she passed. Afterward, I returned to finish my service and traveled through Southeast Asia before coming back to Raleigh—where the weight of grief truly settled in.

One cold November night, I found myself at Saving Grace. I had never had a dog of my own, but something drew me there. That’s when I met Tina, a tiny chihuahua mix who had been brought in just to meet me. It wasn’t love at first sight—she was completely devoted to her foster mom and barely acknowledged me.
Fast forward to today: Tina (now Rooshi) has been my constant companion through life’s ups and downs. She’s traveled to 31 states, explored 17 National Parks, and is a seasoned flyer (Delta is her airline of choice). In her younger days, she could hike 7 miles without breaking a sweat. These days, when she’s tired, she gets a lift to the summit in her travel bag.
We just returned from a 6-week adventure through Baltimore, San Francisco, Boise, Jackson Hole, and Yellowstone. Rooshi is more than a pet—she’s my heart dog, my travel buddy, and the companion I didn’t know I needed. Thank you, Saving Grace, for bringing her into my life.
