Rex
When we met as a puppy, Rex had already been through something most dogs never experience. At 4 months, his back hind leg had to be amputated. It’s hard to wrap your head around something that big happening to something so small.

When we met as a puppy, he had already been through something most dogs never experience. At 4 months, his back hind leg had to be amputated. It’s hard to wrap your head around something that big happening to something so small.
And yet…Rex didn’t come across as broken. He came across as resilient, curious, and unbelievably full of life.
We didn’t go into this thinking we would adopt a dog with that level of medical need. Once we met him, it stopped being about the situation and started being about him. There was something about his spirit that made it feel very clear he just needed someone to say yes.
Knowing he had already received the medical care he needed and a team behind him gave us the confidence to bring him home and focus on helping him adjust, heal, and just be a puppy.
Rex is now 8 months old, and you would never look at him and think of limitations. He is unbelievably mobile. He runs, plays, explores, and keeps up in ways that constantly amaze us. Watching him figure out the world on three legs isn’t something that makes you feel sorry for him, it makes you admire him, every single day.
The biggest surprise hasn’t just been how well he’s physically adapted—it’s how deeply attached we’ve become to him. There’s something about being part of his journey from such a young age, through something so significant, that creates a different kind of bond.
Some of the most meaningful moments have been the small ones—watching him gain confidence, seeing his personality come out more each day, and realizing that what once felt like a “medical case” is now just…Rex. Our dog. Part of our family.
Saying yes to him changed more than just his life; it changed ours, too.
We are grateful to Saving Grace for stepping in when he needed it most, for giving him the care that made his recovery possible, and for giving families like ours the chance to experience what it means to love a dog like Rex.
