Mary Lee Brooks Smith is a Foster, her story is about Rocky.
Since October 2023, we have been blessed to foster over 100 pups for Saving Grace. It is truly wonderful to witness their transformation from the moment we pick them up—often too scared to leave their crates—to the day they find their forever homes. We love fostering large groups at once, as the pups seem to find comfort in each other, building confidence and developing wonderful temperaments together.

Rocky, our 82nd foster, was a senior dog suffering from severe autoimmune and skin issues. He was miserable, itchy, and had several growths he was living with. After a consultation with the incredible clinic staff and a prescription for Apoquel, Rocky was a different dog within just five days. He became happy and bouncy, his hair began to grow back, and he was even able to be groomed by Stephanie, an amazing volunteer groomer. Seeing him transition from a suffering senior to a playful pup was incredible. He has since been adopted by a family who adores him.
Fostering is a vocation filled with hard work and immense joy. Every puppy pile nap and every update from a happy adopter eases the heartbreak of saying goodbye. Three words that describe this experience for us are: transformative, rewarding, and essential.
