Honey: A Sweet Second Chance
On June 2, 2015, I met my Saving Grace dog in the garden. She was about 4–5 years old, and the moment she locked eyes with me, I knew she was special. Her bio said, “If you’re looking for a dog who loves to lay in the sun and forgets to be fed, Melody is for you.” I brought her home and renamed her Honey—because she was the sweetest dog I’d ever met.

Earlier that year, I had said goodbye to my shepherd Belle, and thought she’d be my last rescue. But I believe Belle sent me to find Honey.
Now, nearly 10 years later, Honey is almost 16. She still always wants me in her sight. We walk 3–4 miles daily on soft trails, and she’s adored by every child in our neighborhood. During the quiet days of COVID, she kept me going—sitting with me on the porch and walking by my side.
These days, she loves her cozy bed, her sunny lawn naps, and her kibble topped with ground turkey. Her hind legs are a little weaker, but she’s still healthy and happy.
I’m grateful every single day for the love she’s brought into my life.
