I started fostering nearly three years ago without fully knowing what I was getting into—only knowing I wanted to help. My own dog is a rescue who came through foster care, and that made it feel personal. Someone opened their home for him, and I wanted to do the same. What I didn’t expect was how moving it would be to watch foster dogs change—seeing a shy, unsure puppy slowly bloom into their true personality. It’s a powerful reminder of what love, patience, and a full bowl can do.

Magenta & Mauve arrived tiny for their age and constantly sick, with relentless diarrhea that made even the simplest care exhausting. I was focused on keeping them clean and comfortable while trying to figure out what was wrong.

Born in the shelter, the outside world was completely foreign to them—sunshine, grass, even play felt overwhelming. For the first few days, they wouldn’t come out of their crates- scared, unfamiliar with everything around them, and clearly not feeling well.

This is where the Saving Grace medical team made all the difference. They were incredibly responsive—guiding me on what to watch for, what to monitor, and ordering the right tests. We learned Magenta and Mauve had Giardia, an infection that spreads easily in communal environments and can be especially hard on puppies.

Once they started the right medication, the change was remarkable. They began playing, cuddling, and gaining weight. It felt like their true personalities had been waiting just beneath the surface.

Having such a strong, supportive medical team is what gives me the confidence to foster dogs who need extra care. I’m never alone—and that support changes everything.
