Fix What’s Broken: Clinic Edition

Indigo’s Journey and She’s Finally Home

We always knew we wanted to adopt from Saving Grace after hearing about amazing experiences from our friends and family. Indigo, an 8-year-old, timid girl, came into our lives with the weekend sleepover program last summer and we absolutely fell in love.

We always knew we wanted to adopt from Saving Grace after hearing about amazing experiences from our friends and family. Indigo, an 8-year-old, timid girl, came into our lives with the weekend sleepover program last summer and we absolutely fell in love.

Little did we know that Indigo’s adventure was just beginning! During a walk while FTA, Indigo got scared by a loud construction noise and darted off into the woods dragging her leash behind her! The Saving Grace volunteers searched our neighborhood and the surrounding areas for four days. Any time we saw Indigo, she would run in the other direction. Based on these sightings, we knew she had crossed busy streets multiple times and we were worried about how long she could go without food, clean water, and warmth. She seemed to be trying to find her way home, but her fight-or-flight instincts were preventing her from settling down.

Finally, on the fifth day, Indigo’s food bowl was empty, the stones in our garden were flipped over, and there she was, waiting for us! Once she was ready to come inside, she settled in as if she never left. After this saga, we knew she was meant to be ours!

Indigo’s heartworm positive diagnosis did not dissuade us! We were relieved to hear Saving Grace would complete her treatments, allowing us to adopt Indigo without the financial burden. We brought Indigo into the clinic for her treatments, and now, she is absolutely thriving! This was such a blessing, especially with a baby on the way. The staff at the clinic was so patient with her as she is a bit of an anxious dog, and their commitment to helping dogs in such a gentle and loving way did not go unnoticed.

Seeing Indigo’s personality come out over the past few months has been amazing! She’s learning to trust, warming up to people and continues to brighten our lives every day. We quickly learned not to underestimate her energy, incredible jumping strength, and endurance on long walks– and thanks to her heartworm treatment, she can play all day without us worrying about her health. She loves watching over her new baby sister, Maria, and has become a great big sister. Without Saving Grace’s heartworm program, we may never have taken that chance– and now we can’t imagine life without her!
