,Once your adoption request has been approved, you will receive an email from our adoption team inviting you to make an appointment at Saving Grace to meet the available dogs.

While we use email to schedule and communicate with adopters, your discussions with the adoptions team, once you get on site, are most important. Here they will answer questions about specific dogs and make suggestions for you based on your lifestyle and preferences.

All adoptions team members actively engage with the dogs and onsite adopters during working hours, thus their response time to emails is limited. To have the best experience possible, we recommend you come on site, visit with our dogs and come with the least number of prerequisites possible for your new friend. The more open you are to just engage in the process, the more potential options for dogs you will have.

Once you have an appointment scheduled, please arrive on site at your specified time. Other adopters have appointments as well – we want to get to see everyone in a timely manner.

Check in with the greeter and he/she will review your information and begin the process of learning what you are looking for. Counselors will be available to answer questions, show you available and assist you with finding potential matches.

Appointments are available during the week  (Monday through Friday) and on some Saturdays (generally twice a month).

Be sure everyone in your family – especially minor children – can come to the appointment. This is to ensure we make the best match possible for you, your family and our dogs. This is a requirement.

Need a place to Stay? Saving Grace Cottage is nearby!

Here’s what the process looks like once you’re ready to adopt!

Once everyone is in agreement on a match during your appointment, there are three possible scenarios:

  • Your match will be ADOPTABLE
Some of our dogs are ready to join their new families and will be able to leave the same day with you.
  • Your match will be RESERVED
You may choose a dog newer to the program that may still require vetting before they can be adopted and go home. These dogs are considered “Chosen” and will be unavailable for other adopters while they finish their process.
  • Your match will be in the FTA (Foster to Adopt) Program
Any dogs that are Heartworm positive and need to receive treatment from us will be considered Foster to Adopt. This means they can go home with you if they are vetted but need to continue to be under our care and return for treatments. Final adoptions will take place when treatment is complete.
